PCOS Awareness Month
“There was a point in my life when suddenly my periods became irregular, my scalp became greasy, and my skin was oilier than ever- I called my mom as soon as I realised that something was wrong.
I was living in the happiest place in the world, California. What else could I ask for? I was living my dream. But I had to come back home - I was diagnosed with PCOS. I heard things like - ‘Oh god, PCOS leads to infertility !’ ‘Once you get pregnant, it will go away!’-Pregnancy what?! I was only 19! All of it just scared me. I would spend hours in my room, just laying on my bed, weeping and thinking - why is this happening to me?
Dermatologists, Gynaecologists, Endocrinologists and many more other “-ists” became my new bffs.
To my dismay, more than 70% of them would always give me the most run of the mill solution: the Pill
I began looking for permanent solutions. On this journey of self-healing, I discovered the many benefits of clean nutrition. Changing my nutrition intake changed my health! This prompted me to start The Basics – to help young people, just like me, to prioritise their health.”
PCOS Awareness Month
The month of September is recognised as "World PCOS Awareness Month".
It is dedicated to raise awareness and help improve the lives of those affected by PCOS through overcoming symptoms and changing the lifestyle that leads to PCOS.
Awareness helps understand that symptoms like irregular periods and pelvic pain are not something to be ignored and getting it checked is necessary. The more people that are informed of PCOS, the better chances for early diagnosis and managing symptoms through correct lifestyle changes.
Over half of the 10,000,000 women who have PCOS are unaware of their condition.
What are the symptoms of PCOS?
Women with PCOS wrestle with an array of possible symptoms such as:
- irregular menstrual cycles
- weight gain
- excessive hair growth
- hair fall
- mood swings
- heavy menstrual bleeding
- intermenstrual spotting
- skin pigmentation
Can PCOS be cured?
Unfortunately, there is no scientific cure for PCOS. Most of them are prescribed the quick fix: the Pill. It can be effective to some extent but usually people overlook the adverse effects that come with it. Alternatively, PCOS symptoms can be managed naturally by bringing necessary dietary and lifestyle changes.
At The Basics, we follow a holistic approach using Nutrition+ Ayurveda + Homeopathy to manage PCOS naturally. Get in touch with us today to take charge of your PCOS.
